I love you and I won’t take no for an answer

(Reminder: the opinions expressed here do not represent my employer or, well, anyone sane or capable of intelligent thought)

Apparently next week we should have some idea what is happening between the company I work for and another company who I may soon work for. Disadvantaged third party has said that if our two companies meld it will spell the end of the internet as we know it, and that they will fuse into a super saiyan with a power level so high they could name the new company after the large number itself (oh wait).

The more I think about this, the more I like the idea.

One company owning the internet would mean there would only be one browser that they would dictate everyone use. Instead of the six browsers I have to test my work on today (soon to be nine!), there would be only one and all web applications could easily conform to its standard.

One company owning the internet would make it easy to silence dissenters and people who just need to shut the fuck up already. They could stop stupid internet fads before they start spreading.

One company owning the internet would consolidate duplicate services so you do not need to be signed into five different instant messenger protocols at the same time, or have accounts on multiple social networks (I assume anyway, I have no real idea). And only one social bookmarking site so you would not have fucking rows and rows of “Oh please give me free SEO!” buttons everywhere you go.

One company owning the internet would mean there would be a single sign-in system that could be used across all websites meaning I would not need to create another fucking login and password everywhere I go online any time I want to do anything.

At this point I do not care who takes over any more, just someone please come in and oppress us all. I cannot wait much longer.

Week 3

Hot Chip - Made in the Dark
Having heard a lot about this band, I listened to a song (I cannot remember which one) on their last.fm page and was blown away. When I found out they had just released a new album I was all over that and was genuinely excited. The excitement lasted me through the first listen and I was ready to write “this band is incredible.” The problem was that I kept listening. Throughout the rest of the day at work and that night, I came to the conclusions that: I do not like the slow tracks at all, I do not really like the mid-tempo songs or songs without much synthesizer, okay so I only like the first three tracks and “wrestlers”, or maybe just “ready for the floor” and “wrestlers”, and maybe not even those. I am honestly worried if I continue listening to this album I will end up disliking the band entirely, which I realize sounds peculiar but I cannot explain it any other way.

Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
The first time I heard of this band was on the Stereogum OK Computer tribute (via Elaine) and I really like their cover of “Exit Music (For A Film)” although that just may be because I really like that song. Everyone and their mother have been talking about this band but when I listened to a few tracks on their last.fm page I was not that impressed. After listening to the album six or seven times now, I am divided. On some songs (”Oxford Comma”, in particular) the singer really comes off as extremely stuck-up and looking down on the person the song is directed towards which really rubs me the wrong way; overall the music is all right and I do like the last few songs but do not see why they are being hailed as the second coming of Jesus or something like that.

Pizzicato Five - Happy End of the World, Playboy & Playgirl, The Fifth Release from Matador
Pizzicato Five is the epitome of pop music of all time, past and future. The peak has been reached and they are at the top. I listened to these three albums at work (they make great background music) and am constantly surprised by their music, how much I like it and how the melodies get stuck in my head. One could not possibly feel upset or sad while listening to Pizzicato Five and if I can go on listening to their albums for the rest of my life being wrapped in the warm texture of their music, I can die happy.
